Research, Development and Demonstration Grants

There are numerous grant schemes aimed at encouraging technological innovation. These range from the substantial EU "framework" programmes, to more modest schemes aimed specifically at SMEs, or at particular sectors.

A feature of virtually all EU research funding is that projects must involve transnational partnerships. As the level of financial support, at 50% of eligible costs, is particularly generous, the various programmes are heavily oversubscribed so that only the best applications are successful.

Many R & D state aids, particularly in Northern Europe, require grants to be repaid in the event of successful commercial exploitation.

At UK level, grants are usually restricted to collaborative partnerships, at least for larger companies.

Contact Eurofi to establish if there are schemes relevant to your proposed R & D activities.
Demonstration grants are for encouraging projects for which the research phase has been successfully completed. The objective is that the process or product can be shown to be effective in practice. Such schemes exist at EU and national level
