Training projects

EU Funding

EU funding is available under the Leonardo programme to encourage projects which aim to improve the skills and competencies of people in initial vocational training and also to improve the quality of, and access to, continuing vocational training and the lifelong acquisition of skills and competencies. Projects which reinforce the contribution of vocational training to the process of innovation, with a view to improving competitiveness and entrepreneurship are also encouraged.

Projects must involve transnational partnerships and look into new approaches to training and new ways of acquiring knowledge and skills.

Special attention will be given to proposals addressing the needs of people most at a disadvantage in the labour market and equal opportunities for women and men.

Calls for proposals will be issued in 2002 and 2004

UK state aids schemes to help training of the workforce .

There are a number of schemes, some operated at regional level others at national level.

Schemes sometimes apply only to approved and accredited courses. They may also concern certain categories of employees e.g. the under 25s
